How to get the social media
balance just right
Do you worry that you’re promoting yourself too much on social media? Or not enough? There’s so much advice out there, you can spend hours reading articles with titles like:
- When is the right time to post on social media?
- How to get more people to buy from me on social media?
- How often should I post to social media?
Here’s the truth when it comes to your social media…
Nobody knows your social media like you do. So how do you feel about it? Does it feel like the right amount? If it doesn’t feel right, ask yourself what’s feeling off kilter with it. Are you:
- slapping up any old post because you think you ‘should’ (I hate that word)?
- throwing up new products or services and hoping people will bite?
- ignoring social media for days or even weeks and then asking why nobody engages?
No judgements here. I do all of this and more!
Often the biggest issue with being visible online isn’t how much you’re posting, but the quality of what you’re posting while you’re there. And that’s why only you can answer the question really.
Are you proud of the way you show up? Does your content match who you are, or what your business is about? Are you stuck in transmit mode (Look at me! Buy my thing! I did this! Buy now!)
Have a look at your posts lately and look at the gap between what you’re putting into the world and how you would like the world to see you.
3 quick tips for better engagement on social media
- Is there enough of you in your social media? It’s so important because people buy from people. Your customers have to know, like and trust you. so they feel confident buying from you. Are they able to step into those feelings based on what you’re posting right now?
- Have you changed up the type of content you share on social media? If you’re a text gal, can you give video a try? If you’re a live fanatic – what about writing a blog? You might think your customers might enjoy your blogs and long posts, but what about people who like to listen or watch?
- Algorithms only show content to a certain % of your audience, so what else can you do to get your content in front of potential buyers? It’s so important that social media is about being social so the more you socialise, the more the platforms will reward you.
Social media doesn’t have to be about selling – but you still have to sell to thrive
The more social you are and the more you encourage two-way conversation with your audience the better. It’s important because your audience give you feedback, validation and insight to boost sales and grow your business.
It’s no surprise that social media is a brilliant way to build relationships with potential customers so being aware it’s a long term process is essential.
The good news here is that you have time to hone the quality of your content, and add value to the lives of people who follow you. It won’t take long to build a strong relationship that lasts way longer than a quick scroll on Instagram.
